A couple of days ago I ran across an article which at first made me laugh at the absurdity of it but then started to anger me coupled with disbelief.
It was an article about students at the University of California, Los Angeles who were protesting a professor who corrected their papers for improper English.
You know, the type of stuff you've had done since you started in school. Punctuation, grammar and all that, which anyone would expect to have corrected on papers being turned in at any level much less at the college level.
On top of this the protesters were not just run of the mill students but those who already hold a Masters degree studying for their PHDs.
Now no one likes to see those red marks on their paper when the teacher gives it back to the students, myself included. But I have never done what these students decided to do.
Apparently these students who protested were black and they say that having their papers corrected is racist.
Now that appellation from blacks is certainly nothing new as they seem to deem anything which expects them to behave or conduct themselves normally as others are expected to do, to be racist.
I'm sure you all remember the Ebonics stuff from a number of years ago and the continued demand for "Black English" to be accepted and considered to be normal rather than what it actually is which is an uneducated person speaking who has never learned to speak properly. Of course God forbid any child gets corrected for speaking Blacklish.
Still hearing this made me laugh my ass off, and still laughing, I continued to read which caused me to get mad.
You see they are actually holding protests, sitins, to demonstrate a supposed culture of racism endemic within the university. This being exemplified by the correction of the use of improper English and apparently in a debate between a black student and a white one the professor in the class didn't take the black student's side. Not taking the black student's side in the debate was racist. Apparently the professor chose to remain neutral which according to the blacks isn't acceptable and shows racist attitudes. According to them he was supposed to support the black student solely because she was black and the other student was white. Doesn't matter I suppose as to whether there was any actual merit to her theory. Then again I would really respect a teacher who let the students debate two contrasting theories and remained neutral as this one did, rather than taking sides in said debate. Apparently these blacks can't appreciate that.
I wonder though what they'd say if the teacher took the white student's side. Wait, they'd really go off then, stupid question.
So I'm reading this article and the mad part is entering into it when the disbelief part starts to come in.
One of their chief complaints was a black woman who capitalized every instance of a particular word when it is not supposed to be capitalized. The professor corrected this making the first letter of each use into a small letter instead of a capitalized one.
This set them off. They claim that the black student wanted to capitalize each instance of the word and by not respecting her choice to do so that is was another blatant example of racism.
It apparently doesn't matter to these blacks that a word doesn't get capitalized just because the student wants to do it. Nor does the improper use of English in writing a term paper get excused just because the author is black. My God these people are going for a PHD and are whining like two year olds.
Another point is that correcting the use of English in a term paper isn't racist its called a teacher doing their damn job properly.
White students got their papers corrected just as well as the blacks.
So I'm reading this article, which by the way, was full of liberal nonsense code words such as "Students of color" "Racist microaggressions" and other ridiculous drivel along the same lines.
Can't forget 'Insensitivity' either of course.
Should also mention having a sensitivity person to oversee each black student and their work over the course instructor is one of their demands.
Now you'd think these people would be laughed right out of the school or at least mocked, condemned or otherwise ridiculed for their whining. I mean PHD students who apparently can't write correctly screaming racism over getting their papers corrected.
This is where more of the disbelief comes in because that is not what happened. It's not even in the same universe as what happened.
Instead the staff, teachers and administration expressed outrage that such discrimination was occurring at the school. They expressed condemnation for those practicing such racism and they went on and on about correcting it and how terribly sorry they were that such had been occurring.
Another point that should be made is apparently there are some black teachers and staff whining about racism in the school too.
That reaction went on a fair amount but it left me stunned.
Seriously? I mean, I'm just flabbergasted by that. Not one person in the story stood up to this. Not one person interviewed and presented in the story got up and said "Learn to do your work correctly and you won't have anything to whine about" or anything like that.
Instead the entire place is kowtowing to this absolute garbage being bantered about by these idiots?
I find this another example of the ridiculous out there and even more so another example of the liberal crap which has infused our society. To actually lend credence to these whining babies and even contemplate any validity to their claims is just.......unbelievable.
When will common sense return to our society. When will people ask "If you can't even write your term papers correctly then how the hell did you ever get a Master's degree in the first place, hell how did you graduate high school?"
Instead these morons are having their asses kissed by the school and told their complaints are valid.
What have we come to?
By the way, I make no claims to write correctly all the time. Then again I finished my time at college a very long time ago, plus I'm not looking for a PHD either.
