I thought to sit and write something about it but I actually can't think of anything to say. The usual platitudes of "Horror" "Terrifying" "Unbelievable" "Appalling" as well as countless others just doesn't seem to do it nor do the platitudes given to try and help.
There is no explanation for why someone would do something like this to such small sweet babies. Nor is there any way to explain this to your children that will make sense or reassure them, much less ourselves. And finally there is nothing that can be done to prevent it happening somewhere else in the future.
All there is, is just plain disbelief and horror that something like this took place. Its unthinkable and unimaginable yet it happened.
It reminds me of a song by Reba called "What do you say?"
Indeed, what do you say, what can you say, and how do you say anything at all.
Already the anti-gun people are politicizing this and that is being returned in good measure by the pro-gun people. Normally I would be taking a pro-gun stance and wading in with all barrels loaded but somehow, today, I just can't find it in me to even think about the subject.
I find both sides disgusting for even starting it on Friday when they were still trying to determine how many and who was dead. While parents desperately searched for their children, praying that they were alive, the anti-gun nuts started bringing politics into it followed in very short order by the pro-gun ones.
That discussion could well have waited a period of common decency from both sides before it began. Even though one side started it before the other, both should feel ashamed of themselves for even going there at all at this time.
I feel ashamed of my side and I hope many others do as well.
Its like I read it in a book or saw it in a movie, it's just not real because it couldn't be, yet it is.
Twenty innocent babies, six and seven years of age were cold bloodily and methodically slaughtered.
I don't know what to say, I'm sorry but I just don't.
All I can say is that twenty babies walk with Him today as they did yesterday morning but even that doesn't cut it even if true.
What will stick in my mind is a picture I saw on several news outlets yesterday. I believe it is an AP photograph but not sure.
This Pic and an old song by the Carpenters called "Bless The Beasts and The Children" Above Song by The Carpenters |
Picture can be enlarged by clicking on it and song can be gotten to by clicking the link below the picture
About all I can say is in that picture and that song.
LZ Granderson had a very profound and sad piece today on CNN at Parents Promis: I will Keep You Safe
I hope that you read it.
Lord keep the little children in your arms and comfort the parents and families in this time of their desperate need.
